16-23: I May Be a Bird in a Cage...

...but at least it's your cage.

Jane seems to long for independence and freedom.  How would a relationship/future with Rochester affect that?  Do you see her views changing?

And who gets my allusion without Google-ing??

  2. Jane does want freedom and independence when she is younger yet as she matures I think that Jane really want to belong to someone or something. Her relationship with Rochester is the answer to her wanting to belong. Jane has really never belonged to anyone or anything minus the entire Helen situation and her Uncle Reed. In both relationships Jane really clung to them and loved them dearly. Unfortunately both Uncle Reed and Helen died causing Jane to distance herself from people she loves. Thus after many years Jane wants to belong again. She wants a loving relationship to which she can spent her life with someone who cares about her and that Jane cares about. A person can only go so long before they need more people and compassion in their life and I believe that Jane is at this point where she has been alone for so long that it is getting to her. Jane has always been internally, and even at times externally, passionate but to be passionate and alone is not a good situation to be in. I believe that Jane with have a difficult transition with her relationship because of the pervious harsh experiences. I think her views will change and she will become more expressive and open externally.
I think that reference is from a band from the 90s...

  3. Jane wanted to achieve freedom and independence as a adolescent into her teenage years this is why she travels from Gateshead to Lowood to get away from the family to find her own sence of belonging. I think with the last chapter in 23 she has found her purpose if not through the whole time she has stayed at Lowood she found a sense for real belonging and purpose this is something she wanted to achieve more than anything. Once she had obtained this I believe that the freedom and independence was going away especially as she grows up and this is true. She matures to find her goal was something different then independence and freedom I believe acceptance was the goal. She only really wanted freedom and independence from her family but do not a lot young teenagers go through this trend of wanting to have a stable life with their family nagging at them. With this Rochester plays a huge part I think he is more of a trap I really do not like him and I mean really do not like him. Rochester seems to make Jane feels like she belongs because she is able to express her opinions and believes more fully and he understands. His past has something to do with and once she marries him and finds the truth she will long for her freedom from Thornsfield and Rochester and this is going to be a part in the next few chapters is how she reacts to a life which is about moving away and staying in one place. If she truly wanted independence why did she not take that governess job in Ireland.

Think that's either a band in the 90's or a song name from the Beetles or some other popular band of the 90's... I am going to google it now after I post this....

  4. Jane is a very independent girl who questions a lot of things but mostly keeps to herself about it. Rochester is wealthy and popular. He is a more social person than Jane is. Rochester is always going out of town, trying new things, inviting people over and having lots of parties. Rochester and Jane do have two sides and somewhat two different personalities. For a couple to work I think they will both have to take sides for each other that the other does not want to do. I think you can be a future with Rochester and Jane but I see it not lasting too long because their differences will get the best of them. I can see Rochester struggling with Jane not doing things he wants her to like travel and be accompanied all the time by people. with Jane I can see her hating Rochester for being so busy and popular with other people wand not spending to much time together. There is a future but it wont last. I do see Jane's views changing a little to meet with Rochester's lifestyle but I feel like she will have enough of Rochester ad they will go their separate ways.
