Gateshead is where Jane starts off in the book and shows her childhood development. This is also where the tone is set at first to be uncomfortable and uneasy. The red room is described as the chamber where Jane's uncle died. At Lowood Jane does not like it there at all and does not fit in. The atmosphere is not comfortable for her and it takes awhile for her to be settled. At Lowood everyone receives cold rooms, not so good food and thin clothing. In the novel Lowood is described as not a great place to be but Janes seems to get used to it even after everything was changed. Thornfield is a three story high manor. Jane describes that the third floor is filled with old furniture and that it has a past and an old feeling. Jane said she thinks its a strange enough room that a ghost could live there. All the furniture in the house is explained and seemed to be very nice and expensive.
