The red room ,is the bedroom of Janes uncle reed. He died in this room. Jane believes a he was a ghost in the room. The room symbolizes slavery or a situation people don't get to control by their oppressors. Jane was put into the room to form a new attitude. There is mostly red in the room and some white. The white represents the innocence of a childhood and the red represents unpleasant, intense and bitter emotions. They both meet while being in the room.
I agree with the above statement, but red usually symbolizes danger. If Jane saw the ghost in the Red Room, this would symbolize a dark future yet to come.
A large majority of this setting took place just in the red room, it gave Jane a good opportunity to contemplate the situation and reflect on it with the audience, it was also key in creating the transitional period to the school. How other people view you or at least tell you they view you, is how you end up seeing yourself, so Jane having this experience goes to the school cautiously, because she feels like everyone is going to see her in that way.
